Mixing rock, pop, disco and progressive rock music styles, Adventures In Utopia achieved predicted success with the band's established fan base and some wider commercial success with the track Set Me Free, released as a single with "Umbrella Man" as it's b-side.
The, by then, established team of Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, Roger Powell and John "Willie" Wilcox wrote, performed and produced the album.
The line (bracketed as an aside) "here comes that Silver Surfer now" appears at the end of the track Last Of The New Wave Riders; often believed to be a reference to the Marvel Comics character, The Silver Surfer or perhaps actually a reference to the colloquial name given to middle or old aged people who participate in activities normally associated with the young - this second interpretation fits more convincingly with the sentiment of the song and the progress of the band's music career at that time.
